Hi Joel,

A lot of great evergreen software already do this. Think about MS Office. Users can customize the buttons and commands on their menu ribbons. What about your iPhone? Doesn’t it give users a lot of self-defined UI options too?Simple web browsers — like Chrome — allows the user to change so many aspect of the UI to their liking. Even the electronic console in cars these days have many user-defined customizations for UI too. etc. etc.

BTW: This article was inspired by a project that was designing for enterprise software, not a consumer app or website.
