Asking for advice is a tactic that should be selectively used with investors who you already have a bit of a relationship with IMHO. Otherwise it might be too pretentious and imposing.

I closed this startup back in 2007. The investor wanted to build up on the brand name and IP but I think nothing much happened in the end. He was a pretty wealthy chap already and bought it up just as a ‘by the way’ sort of thing.
