Your observations are indeed correct. We’re a small island which makes us much easier to govern. The history and circumstances were unique. I’m not a huge fan of some of LKY’s policies either, but I do think he was great student of history and that his insights into foreign affairs was so impressive that even leaders of huge countries like the US and UK sought advice from him.
