I guess back then native apps and iPhones were a big novel hit and everyone was keen to explore this new tech and what they could do with it.

Indeed, back then if you were the first to put out an app for something one could become a semi-celebrity.

Right now it’s more like throwing a drop of water into an ocean. It’s become more an issue of marketing dollars.
