Indeed I am not against note taking. I do it too (especially now getting on age) to ensure I remember the key decisions and actions points. What I’m against is the perception of some bosses that if their subordinates aren’t conscientiously taking notes they are somehow not displaying the right behavior expected of them.

And your second point about having just one person taking minutes is excellent. I also admire the culture at Bridgewater Associates, the biggest hedge fund in the world. Ray Dalio instituted a culture where everyone gives feedback on each other (even himself) and what’s the best strategy for the company.
